Who we are

My Guide went online in 2006. The approach has stayed the same since: each guide covers one place, and what it recommends comes from people who know that place.

Today the network runs 180+ guides across Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Australasia. Each one lives on its own website and covers events, restaurants, things to do and places to stay in its destination.

What we believe in

  • Local recommendations Guides are built from what locals recommend: the neighbourhood places and the events people actually go to.
  • Accurate, current information Listings are checked against their current opening status, and events and experiences are refreshed every day.
  • Our own platform Every guide runs on technology we build and improve ourselves, from the trip planner and 14 languages to live event listings and pages built for Google and AI search.
Meet the founder

Helping people ‘Make Memories’

Mark's love of travel started with a backpack, travelling around Australia and Asia with a loose plan. The best days rarely came from a guidebook. They came from someone local saying "skip that, go here instead". The trouble was that those tips were hard to find unless you happened to meet the right person.

His other passion is technology. A computer engineer with a first-class honours degree, he started out in defence and at Motorola, then spent more than a decade at O2, where he played a key role in the development of WAP in Europe, the first version of the internet on a phone, MMS picture messaging and the UK launch of the very first iPhone.

So he put that technology background behind an online travel guide with one aim: to help people find the places locals love. In 2016 he bought My Destination, online since 2006, rebuilt it and relaunched it as My Guide. It now covers 180+ destinations and is still growing. Now a dad of two, he still leads the technology behind every guide, and uses it to keep the adventures going with recommendations from locals.

Mark's motto

‘Make Memories’

Nearly every one of these started with a tip from someone local.
It's still the best way to discover a place.
